Newcastle midfielder Cheik Tiote will be missing once again as he attempts to shake off a knee problem. The Ivory Coast international, who has been sidelined since the end of October, is also a doubt for next weekend's trip to Norwich, although manager Alan Pardew is confident he does not need surgery. Winger Jonas Gutierrez is suspended after being sent off at Manchester United last Saturday but striker Leon Best (groin) has returned to training and is available.

As John Terry returns from suspension, Chelsea will be without Josh McEachran. The midfielder was forced from the field in Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat to Liverpool with an injury to his left ankle, which he is expected to recover from in less than a fortnight. Long-term knee injury victim Michael Essien is the only other absentee.

Alan Pardew: "Our players will be desperate for us to win to pay a tribute (to Gary Speed) in that way. We can't guarantee that, of course, but we are going to try. He was a great player here and a captain of this club, and he has been a big loss to us this week. The training ground has been heavy, particularly the first two days, because we had a lot of staff and players who don't just remember him as a great player, but as a great person, so it has been a difficult week. Even today (Thursday), it was a little bit low, but hopefully by the time the game comes around, we can at least prepare ourselves mentally."

Andre Villas-Boas: "It is not at crisis point. We just have to pull ourselves together and can only continue with our hard work and believe we are going to reverse the situation.
