TEAM NEWS
New Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has several injury concerns. Striker Nicklas Bendtner has not trained all week because of a groin problem while defender Phil Bardsley has suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury but O'Neill is hopeful both will be available. Midfielder Lee Cattermole misses out through suspension after picking up five yellow cards along with striker Connor Wickham (knee) and goalkeepers Simon Mignolet (fractured nose and eye socket) and Craig Gordon (knee).
Martin Olsson will have a fitness test to see if he can make the Blackburn squad. Olsson has been out with a hamstring and Ruben Rochina is also doubtful. He suffered a muscle injury and has been recovering this week after having his wisdom teeth removed. Steven Nzonzi serves the final game of his three-match suspension while Ryan Nelsen is still short of match fitness.
MANAGER QUOTES
Martin O'Neill: "In this day and age clubs of this size would want to have some sort of expectation. It would be nice, it would be great to have some sort of ambition. I just don't know, but the idea of wanting to have ambition, it doesn't scare me. In fact, that's the sort of thing that would spur you on."
Steve Kean: "It has been excellent this week. When you get a good victory like last week there is a nice feel good factor around the place. We have been training well all week and we just want to keep the momentum going. We knew the Swansea game was the first of a good batch of home games, with Bolton and West Brom coming up after Sunderland."
