Daley Blind, Gregory van der Wiel and Vurnon Anita are all int he frame to replace him at centre-back. Ismail Aissati, Siem de Jong, Andre Ooijer, Derk Boerrigter, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Nicolai Boilesen are all sidelined.
With the season's first 'Clasico' against Barcelona on Saturday, Jose Mourinho will rest several of his star men for the trip to the Amsterdam ArenA. However, Mourinho confirmed he plans to play strikers Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain in the Dutch capital.
MANAGER QUOTES
Frank de Boer: "Even when Madrid do not play their strongest team, they can still put out a strong lineup. We have just one goal and that is to reach the next stage of the Champions League. We will have to play well but I have a good feeling. We have to play our own game and we have done that every time so far."
Jose Mourinho: "We are fully focussed on the match against Ajax. The Clasico is not in our heads yet. It's always nice to be back in Amsterdam, and playing against Ajax is always special for me. Some players that start tomorrow will also play against Barcelona, but I can't say how many."
